Creating a usability test
Start a new test
Section titled “Start a new test”- Click Usability Tests in the top navigation.
- Click New test →
/usability-tests/new.
Creation wizard
Section titled “Creation wizard”1. Languages
Section titled “1. Languages”Select supported languages and default language (edit translations later from Translations on the study list).
2. Template
Section titled “2. Template”Choose a starting template (if offered) to pre-fill pages and common task structures.
3. Prototypes
Section titled “3. Prototypes”Attach initial prototypes (optional):
- Figma — connect via OAuth (
/figma-callbackafter authorizing) - ProtoPie — link to ProtoPie share URL (played via API proxy)
- Adobe XD — validated through prototype API
- URL or upload — static or hosted assets
You can add more prototypes later in Assets & Media.
4. Groups
Section titled “4. Groups”Define participant groups for between-subjects designs or randomized prototype assignment (used with logic and randomization variables).

5. Team settings
Section titled “5. Team settings”Workspace, visibility, and permissions — same model as surveys.
After the wizard, you land on /usability-tests/{id}/edit (Build tab).
AI alternative
Section titled “AI alternative”Use Study Generator → select Usability test → describe tasks and goals → create study.
Next steps
Section titled “Next steps”- Assets & Media — confirm prototypes are linked to task pages.
- Build — add goal-based or other interactive tasks.
- Configure — turn on recording and device rules.
- Preview — test permissions and prototype loading.
- Publish and Distribute.
