Creating a usability test

  1. Click Usability Tests in the top navigation.
  2. Click New test/usability-tests/new.

Select supported languages and default language (edit translations later from Translations on the study list).

Choose a starting template (if offered) to pre-fill pages and common task structures.

Attach initial prototypes (optional):

  • Figma — connect via OAuth (/figma-callback after authorizing)
  • ProtoPie — link to ProtoPie share URL (played via API proxy)
  • Adobe XD — validated through prototype API
  • URL or upload — static or hosted assets

You can add more prototypes later in Assets & Media.

Define participant groups for between-subjects designs or randomized prototype assignment (used with logic and randomization variables).

For a full guide on groups, randomisation modes, and compare assets, see Group comparison and routing.

Workspace, visibility, and permissions — same model as surveys.

After the wizard, you land on /usability-tests/{id}/edit (Build tab).

Use Study Generator → select Usability test → describe tasks and goals → create study.

  1. Assets & Media — confirm prototypes are linked to task pages.
  2. Build — add goal-based or other interactive tasks.
  3. Configure — turn on recording and device rules.
  4. Preview — test permissions and prototype loading.
  5. Publish and Distribute.
