Paste content with AI
If you already have questions in a document, spreadsheet, or workshop notes, you do not need to add every block by hand. Paste them into the builder and, when AI is enabled, FromUsers can suggest the right content type for each line.
Works for surveys, usability tests, and in-product surveys that use the page builder.
Before you paste
Section titled “Before you paste”- Open the study → Build
- Select the page where pasted content should start (or an empty page)
- Ensure Settings → AI has a working API key if you want type detection
How to paste
Section titled “How to paste”- Copy your list from Word, Google Docs, Notion, Excel, etc.
- In Build, open Paste questions (from the page sidebar or import action)
- Paste your text into the dialog
- Review the preview list — each line becomes a block on the canvas
- Confirm to add them to the study
You can paste up to 100 items in one batch.
What AI type detection does
Section titled “What AI type detection does”When AI is on, FromUsers reads each pasted line and suggests a type such as:
| If your text looks like… | Typical suggestion |
|---|---|
| A section title or instructions only | Context text |
| “How likely are you to recommend…?” (0–10) | NPS |
| A list of options to pick from | Choice (single or multiple) |
| “Rank these in order of importance” | Ranking |
| A grid with the same scale on each row | Matrix |
| “Your email address” | Email field |
| A clear usability task (“Find pricing and click Sign up”) | Goal-based task (usability tests only) |
Detection follows structure and wording, not the topic of your research. It is a starting point — always check each block before publishing.
What to verify after paste
Section titled “What to verify after paste”- Single vs multiple choice — “Select all that apply” should be multiple choice
- Required vs optional
- Options and scales — labels, row/column text, NPS endpoints
- Matrix vs choice — one shared option list for one question = choice; same scale repeated per row = matrix
- Task types — prototype links and task settings are not inferred from pasted text; set those in the editor for usability tests
What AI does not paste for you
Section titled “What AI does not paste for you”- Media blocks with images or video files — add these from the picker
- Prototype URLs and screen IDs for interactive tasks — configure after paste
- Conjoint or MaxDiff full designs — complex setups are easier to build in the picker
- Conditional logic — add after structure is stable
For a full draft study (pages, mix of types, logic hints), use the AI Study Generator instead of paste.
After importing
Section titled “After importing”- Drag blocks to reorder on the page or move them with move block
- Use page break or the page sidebar to split long paste results across pages
- Assign blocks to sections for randomisation or branching
- Add conditional logic when the flow is final
Usability tests
Section titled “Usability tests”Paste works for post-task questions (NPS, ratings, open text). For interactive tasks, paste may suggest a task type from the wording, but you still need to link the prototype and task options in the block editor. When in doubt, add tasks from Interactive tasks in the picker.
