Participant samples

Participant samples are lists of people you reuse when sending study invitations by email. Manage them from the Participants page in the app (/participants), documented here as part of Distribution.

This guide focuses on samples for distribution. Per-study participation views help you track who completed after you invite them.

  1. Open Participants in the left sidebar → Participant Samples tab.
  2. Click to create a new sample with a name and description.
  3. Import CSV or add participants manually.

Upload a CSV file; FromUsers maps columns to participant fields (email, name, etc.). Extra columns can feed variables or segmentation in logic.

  1. Open a study → DistributeEmail tab.
  2. On the Recipients step, choose your participant sample instead of entering addresses one by one.
  3. Complete compose and review → send.

See Sending studies via email.

From Participants, you can:

  • Check eligibility before inviting someone to a study
  • Invite a sample (or individuals) to a specific survey or usability test
  • Send reminders to people who have not yet completed

Associate samples with studies to track who was invited and who finished — useful alongside Message tracker open/click data.

  • Store only data you have lawful basis to process.
  • Document retention in your privacy policy.
  • Export or delete participant data per your compliance process.
