Publish and distribute surveys
Publish (go live)
Section titled “Publish (go live)”A survey must be Live (ACTIVE) to accept real participant responses on public links.
From the editor
Section titled “From the editor”Click Publish in the study header. This:
- Saves pending question and page changes
- Sets status to Live
From the study list
Section titled “From the study list”Use the status dropdown on a study card: Live, Draft, Paused, or Closed.
Distribute
Section titled “Distribute”Open Distribute from the survey list to launch the distribution modal.
Link tab
Section titled “Link tab”- Generic link —
/respond/{studyId}(auto-detects study type and language when configured) - Per-language links — direct participants to a specific translation
Copy links for email, Slack, or QR codes. Participants do not need a FromUsers account.
Email tab
Section titled “Email tab”Three-step Distribution wizard:
- Compose — pick an email template, edit subject/body, use variables like
{{participant_name}} - Recipients — select a participant sample or enter addresses manually
- Review & send — confirm and send via SendPulse (org email config required)
Track delivery in Message tracker.
Prolific tab
Section titled “Prolific tab”Connect to Prolific for panel recruitment:
- Create a distribution with filters and compensation
- Participants may complete a screener at
/prolific-screen/{studyId} - Completion redirects through
/prolific-complete/{studyId}
Requires Prolific API configuration on your deployment.
Preview vs live responses
Section titled “Preview vs live responses”| Mode | Purpose |

Preview (/preview/{id} or editor Preview tab) | Researcher testing; may not count as live data depending on settings |
Live respond (/respond/{id}) | Real participant data |
Non-preview submissions require Live status. The API returns an inactive message if the study is draft.
